Psychologists and counsellors register with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions, which keeps a separate national register.

Membership of a professional association is not statutory registration. For a psychiatrist you can check the Indian Medical Register held by the National Medical Commission. Verify with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) or National Medical Commission (NMC).

The wider price ranges quoted online come from blogs and market guides rather than any official source, so read them as advertising rather than evidence. On insurance, the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 requires every insurer to make provision for treatment of mental illness on the same basis as physical illness.

Ask your insurer what your policy covers before assuming therapy is out of pocket. The same Act gives a right to mental healthcare run or funded by the government. That route starts at a government hospital or a community health centre, where a nominal registration fee is followed by assessment and treatment inside the public system.

Across India, a session commonly costs ₹800 to ₹3,000. Those are advertised prices, not official rates. What a particular practitioner charges is set by them, not by any figure on this page. Their profile lists a fee where they have given one, and asking them is the way to be sure.
