Who registers therapists in Switzerland
In Switzerland, psychotherapy is a federally recognised profession, and the register that proves recognition is PsyReg, run by the Federal Office of Public Health. It carries federally recognised psychotherapists alongside recognised child and adolescent psychologists.
To bill basic health insurance, a psychological psychotherapist needs a PsyReg entry, a cantonal licence to practise, admission to bill that insurance, and a doctor's prescription for the therapy. You can check a psychotherapist on the federal PsyReg register.
Under the Psychologieberufegesetz, article 4, Psychologe means a recognised psychology degree and nothing more. Practising psychotherapy independently needs a federal postgraduate title and a practice licence from the canton, under article 22.
