Who registers therapists in Switzerland
In Switzerland, psychotherapy is a federally recognised profession, and the register that proves recognition is PsyReg, run by the Federal Office of Public Health. It carries federally recognised psychotherapists alongside recognised child and adolescent psychologists.
The consequence is concrete rather than formal: only a practitioner listed in PsyReg may bill basic health insurance for psychotherapy, so the register settles a funding question and a credential question at once.
You can check a psychotherapist on the federal PsyReg register. Under the Psychologieberufegesetz, article 4, Psychologe means a recognised psychology degree and nothing more. Practising psychotherapy independently needs a federal postgraduate title and a practice licence from the canton, under article 22.
