Colombian law names the entry point. Article 15 of Ley 1616 de 2013 makes the first level of care the door into the system. Article 26 requires mental health cover in the benefit plans of every regime.

Ley 2460 de 2025 amended that law, and rewrote the entry article. On the private side there is no fee scale. The psychologists' college has said a professional body imposing a table of rates would count as cartelisation.

In Colombia, a psychologist practises on a Professional Card, the Tarjeta Profesional, issued under law by the Colegio Colombiano de Psicólogos. Without that card a psychologist cannot lawfully practise in the country, which makes the card the practical thing to ask about rather than a qualification described in general terms.

The college runs a public card-verification service, and asking a practitioner for the number that service takes is reasonable. You can start from the Colpsic card verification service. Ley 1090 of 2006 restricts the word psicólogo to holders of the tarjeta profesional and treats advertising without one as illegal practice. It creates no psicoterapeuta or consejero title, so those words describe work rather than registration.
