This page lists Male Sex Therapy Psychologists in New York. 6 in all.
That is 6 of the 7 psychologists listed in New York.
These are practitioners who identify as male on their profile 1. We ask every therapist that question, and they may decline to answer. We do not check the answer, and nothing here is ranked.
This list answers an explicit request for a man. While many people prefer this, we found no research on whether it changes how the therapy goes.
Identifying as a man is a different thing from working with men's concerns. A client and a practitioner always differ, whatever they share 2.
What sex therapy involves, and what it is not
Sex therapy is a talking treatment for sexual difficulties. Those include desire, arousal, pain, difficulty reaching orgasm, or a mismatch between partners.
It usually combines education with exercises done at home. One of them is sensate focus, which separates touch from any expectation of performance 3.
People come alone or with a partner. It is not a physical examination.
A practitioner may suggest you also see a doctor where there could be a physical cause. Ask what training a practitioner has in this work.
What a psychologist does, and where assessment fits in
Everyone on this page is listed under the professional title psychologist. Psychologists apply the study of the mind and behaviour to assist people through difficulty. Clinical psychologists work with people of all ages, with families, carers, teams and communities.
Assessment belongs to a psychologist's training, and sits alongside therapy. Clinical, counselling and educational psychology are different training routes. Each route emphasises different work.
Which titles are registered varies by country. Where the title is registered, the register says what it covers. Ask a psychologist which route they trained through, and what they work with most.
What this page filters on
These are the only filters: the practitioner's stated Male identity, the specialism recorded as Sex Therapy and the professional title psychologist.
