Helplines, crisis lines, and suicide hotlines let you reach out whenever you need and offer a chance to discuss things you might not be ready to share face-to-face.

They are a great way to be heard and get sound advice. Hours and cost vary between services, so check the entry for the one you are calling.

Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center is a crisis centre in the 988 Lifeline network, serving Los Angeles County and other parts of California. It offers free mental health, substance use disorder and suicide prevention services, and follow-up services for people discharged from emergency departments after a suicidal crisis.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. The Trevor Project provides crisis support by phone, text and chat for LGBTQ+ young people anywhere in the US who are in distress or at risk of suicide. All three channels are 24/7, 365 days a year, and the service is free and confidential.

Veterans Crisis Line

The Veterans Crisis Line offers 24/7 free, confidential support for veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and those who support them. You do not have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to connect.

Crisis Text Line provides 24-hour support for any crisis. A live, trained crisis counsellor receives the text and responds, all from their secure online platform.

Trans Lifeline

Trans Lifeline’s hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans people, for trans and questioning people who want someone trans to talk to, even if they are not in a crisis. The hotline operates Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00 Pacific time (13:00 to 21:00 Eastern), not 24 hours.
