Marriage Counsellors & Couples Therapists in Faisalabad, Pakistan

Both partners attend, and that is the normal form of the work rather than a preference ¹.

Ask at the outset how the practitioner handles contact with one partner alone. Most approaches set explicit rules for it, and those rules decide what is passed on and what is not.

Sessions are usually about an hour, often weekly, and many approaches expect a course of some months. In practice the first session is mostly listening. What has happened, how long it has been going on, and what each of you wants from coming.

The main models perform similarly for relationship distress, so the fit with the practitioner matters more than the name of the method ².

Regulation here is in transition, so the check takes more than one lookup.

Psychologists come under the Allied Health Professionals Council ³. It is the federal statutory regulator under the Ministry of National Health Services, and it registers psychologists among other allied health professions. A psychiatrist is a doctor and registers with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council ⁴.

Most practitioners listing here name a professional body of some kind. Many of those bodies are universities, awarding organisations or voluntary associations ⁵. Those are not statutory regulators, and the difference matters. Ask which body a practitioner is registered with, and ask whether that body is the statutory council for their profession.

Titles you will see include Psychiatrist, Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist. The Allied Health Professionals Council holds the register. We could not confirm it is open to the public. Ask a practitioner whether they are registered and licensed with the Council, and under which discipline.

Practitioners set their own fees.

Our guide to what therapy costs in Pakistan sets out the ranges people are quoted and what moves them ⁶. Read it first. Then ask each practitioner what a session for two people costs and how long it runs. A couples session is often longer than an individual one.

Fees differ noticeably between Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, and between practitioner categories in the same city. Nothing on this page computes a figure for you. A practitioner who states a fee on their listing is stating their own.

Across Pakistan: PKR 2,500 to PKR 8,000 for an individual session of 45 to 60 minutes with a psychologist or psychotherapist, per our Pakistan fee guide. Those are advertised prices, not official rates.

Not every couple should start with a joint session, and a practitioner will normally say so early.

Moderate to severe aggression between partners is one reason ¹. Active alcohol or other substance misuse is another. So are a continuing affair and psychotic symptoms.

The usual answer is individual or specialist treatment first. Couples work follows if it still fits.

Where one partner is frightened of the other, safety comes before any of this. The services below are the ones for it. Seeing someone alone first is a common route into couples work rather than an alternative to it.

The practitioners listed here write both marriage counselling and marriage counseling. Our own listings show the same three cities carrying most of the couples-qualified practitioners ⁵. They work in Urdu and English, and Punjabi is common in Lahore.

If it is a marriage bureau you want rather than therapy, this is the wrong page. Everyone listed here is a practitioner offering counselling or therapy.

The Allied Health Professionals Council is the federal statutory regulator and it registers psychologists among other allied health professions³.

Many practitioners name a professional body of some kind. A number of those are universities, awarding organisations or voluntary associations⁵, which is ordinary but is not statutory registration. Ask which of the two a practitioner means.

Nearly all the listed practitioners sit in those three cities.

Practitioners who work by video say so on their listings. That is usually the route from elsewhere. Psychotherapy delivered live by video reaches outcomes close to in-person work, across therapies in general⁷.

Widen to the country page rather than to a nearer town.

Four things move a fee. The practitioner's registration category, their experience, the session length, and whether you meet in a room or online.

Where a practitioner states a fee on their listing, that figure is their own. Ask before the first session. Ask too whether the fee runs per session or per person in the room.

The practitioner works with what happens between you, not with one person's account of it.

Practice differs on what comes first. Some approaches open with a formal assessment that combines joint and individual meetings. Others use no set assessment stage¹.

A first meeting normally covers three things. Why you are coming now, how each of you sees the problem, and what each of you wants changed.

Ask before you start whether the practitioner sees each partner alone. Ask how you will know the work is done.

We hold no national source on this. The public health-financing programmes we found are provincial, and a provincial rule is not a national one, so this answer names none.

Employer and private policies set their own outpatient benefits, and counselling is often outside them.

Ask your insurer whether outpatient consultations are covered and with which categories of practitioner, and ask the practitioner what they are able to invoice.

There is no threshold you have to cross first. Relationship distress is one of the commonest reasons adults seek psychotherapy at all².

Distress between partners travels. It is associated with mood, anxiety and substance-use difficulties in the partners themselves, and with difficulties for children in the household¹.

Couples come with a repeating argument, with an affair, with a decision about whether to stay together, and with none of those. You do not have to agree on the problem before you make contact.

Where someone at home is being hurt, threatened or controlled, counselling is not the first step.

The Ministry of Human Rights runs a national helpline ⁸. It offers free legal advice, counselling, legal assistance and referral, and it works from any province. It is the one route here that is both national and free.

The legal route depends on the province. In Sindh the route is the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act ⁹. A woman, child or vulnerable person in a domestic relationship may apply to a judicial magistrate.

The orders include a protection order and interim relief at any stage of the case. They also include the right to stay in the household rather than be put out of it.

Punjab runs its own protection law and its own women's helpline, and this page does not list them. The national helpline above works from any province.
