This page lists Female Trauma Psychoanalysts in New York. 4 in all.
That is 4 of the 8 psychoanalysts listed in New York.
These are practitioners who identify as female on their profile 1. We ask every therapist that question, and they may decline to answer. We do not check the answer, and nothing here is ranked.
This list answers an explicit request for a woman. While many people prefer this, we found no research on whether it changes how the therapy goes.
A client and a practitioner always differ; what matters is what that means to you and how you work with it 2. You can filter the same list by the languages a practitioner works in.
What trauma therapy treats
Trauma therapy treats what stays behind after a frightening or overwhelming event. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR are the recommended treatments 34.
World Health Organization guidance recommends both for post-traumatic stress disorder 5. Cognitive therapy and narrative exposure therapy are also used.
Treatment usually includes preparation, and work on the memory itself comes later. It is for people whose symptoms have persisted.
Not everyone who has been through something bad needs it. Ask a practitioner which approaches they are trained in.
What a psychoanalyst does, and how often the sessions run
Everyone on this page describes their work as psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic therapy. You talk as freely as you can, and the analyst listens for patterns 6. The analyst also listens for how those patterns appear between you both.
Analysis usually means several meetings a week, agreed between you and the analyst. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy uses the same ideas once or twice a week.
The work runs open-ended rather than to a fixed number of sessions.
What this page filters on
These are the only filters: the practitioner's stated Female identity, the specialism recorded as Trauma and the professional title psychoanalyst.
