The mind is a powerful weapon that can help us transform our lives. Our mind is our strongest friend and companion who can open a world of hope, wonders and miracles for us.

Our mind is the most powerful element of our self. It can create a lasting impact on our lives. So, it is up to us how we choose to use our minds. The way we channel our thoughts has a direct impact on every minute sphere of our lives.

The mind has a sub-conscious and a conscious segment. The sub-conscious segment is the channel that connects and acts as a bridge to the different parts of our body, organs, and nervous system. The conscious mind gives commands to the subconscious mind, which acts based on the given commands.

Although our subconscious mind is the most potent part of our mind, it can’t think and act on its own. It acts and delivers the commands given to it. The commands given to the subconscious mind can dictate our emotions, feelings, and behaviour. It has the power over our lives.

Most of us develop our attitudes, habits, perspectives, and reactions so that they become embedded in our personality. They become a large part of what defines us as individuals. Therefore, having the right mindset and thinking pattern becomes extremely important as they have immense power and control over our lives.

Our lives are filled with stress, anxiety, and constant goals and deadlines. We all have some or the other goal to achieve. In such a world, it becomes easy to lose the clarity and sense of purpose that grounds us as individuals.

The conscious mind picks up stress and negative cues and transfers them to our subconscious mind, which then cements the negative automatic thoughts into our brain. So, every time we encounter a stressor, our mind responds with the same pattern learnt over time, becoming a part of our daily behaviour.

Reconditioning our Mind

There are various ways in which we can teach our subconscious mind to respond differently, which would bring harmony and stability into our daily lives and make them more joyous and stress-free.

Positive affirmations and the lens through which we view our problems are two important elements which play a crucial role in reconditioning our minds. The mind has the power to adapt and transform our lives. The key to transformation comes from our thoughts.

Most of us are troubled by anxiety and fear of negative outcomes in our lives. We sometimes obsess over the chances of a negative outcome becoming our reality, so our minds get blocked, and we do not see reality often. In most cases, when faced with uncertainties, life also throws many blessings into our lives, which can be the biggest reassurance and strength used to overcome life's obstacles.

Most of us normally obsess over obstacles and fail to see the blessings in our lives, which, if used effectively, can turn our lives around. When we constantly adopt this attitude, we are training our minds to approach the problems we face positively and efficiently. This will recondition our minds to adopt a very balanced and harmonious way of viewing life, which can leave us stress-free and happy.

Dealing with Triggers

The triggers we face are another common disturbance that can make our lives completely miserable. We all face different situations that can scar us for life. How we respond to experiences determines the quality of our lives. Our brain has the skill to give the same signals to our bodies when faced with similar situations. Therefore, our bodies might respond in uncomfortable situations by sweating, breathing heavily, or being fidgety and nervous.

The brain learns this response and gives the same signal when faced with uncomfortable situations. This becomes a pattern over time, and our mind and body get conditioned to the various stimulants in the environment. Therefore, when similar uncomfortable situations reappear in our lives, they act as “triggers,” which can bring about the same distressing responses from our body and mind. It is a survival mechanism that has evolved in living beings.

We can recondition our minds to deal with these triggers and overcome their impact on our lives when faced with uncomfortable situations. Deep breathing and a " reframe " technique are highly effective in handling triggers. Reframing is a technique where we consciously signal our mind when faced with similar responses and retrain our mind to approach the trigger with compassion and confidence. We train ourselves to look at the triggers more objectively and rationally and see if it has the potential to alter our lives.

Rationalising it and reframing our anxious thoughts with positive and reassuring thoughts can help us reframe how we view these triggering events. Constantly practising this exercise can help us overcome the trigger's impact on the body. The brain will learn to adapt and learn a new way of responding to uncomfortable situations. With practice, the triggers will disappear, and our brain will learn a whole new range of adaptation skills, making our lives much more manageable and enjoyable even when faced with uncomfortable situations.

Conclusion

In this section, we have examined the powerful impact our thoughts have on our lives. Our thoughts have the strength to either make our lives beautiful or destroy them beyond repair. Therefore, consciously using our thoughts to make our lives more fruitful and joyful will improve our mental and physical well-being. Reconditioning our minds with positive and balanced thoughts is the key to living a happy and stress-free life.
