South Korea has 2 therapists listed on TherapyRoute.
The list on this page is short, and it may not hold anyone who suits you. Two things below still apply. One is who is entitled to register as a therapist in this country. The other is what shapes the cost of a session here.
What therapy costs in South Korea
Korean residents are insured by law, so psychiatric care at a health institution is covered. The National Health Insurance Act has the fund's president contract each year with bodies representing the professions.
Private counselling centres sit outside that system. The government also funds talk-based counselling directly, through a national voucher programme. It sets no age limit and no income limit. A person enters it on a referral, or on a diagnosis, or on a national health screening result.

Who is allowed to practise
South Korea's state qualification is the mental health professional, 정신건강전문요원. The Mental Health Act's enforcement decree creates four of them. They are the mental health clinical psychologist, nurse, social worker and occupational therapist.
There is no psychotherapist or counsellor on that list. The English words counsellor and psychotherapist usually stand for an association certificate here. Bodies such as the Korean Counseling Psychological Association issue them.
A certificate of that kind is not a government licence. Psychiatrists are licensed as doctors under the Medical Service Act. Ask which of these a practitioner holds, and who issued it.

Real choice. Authentic, independent, clinician-led care.
TherapyRoute is a clinician-led directory that champions independent practitioners who answer to you and their professional ethics. We don't take commissions, sell your data, or assign therapists by algorithm. You browse, compare, and choose.
