Therapy fees in Lebanon are set by each practice. What a psychologist, psychotherapist or psychiatrist charges depends on their qualifications, the session length and where they work. Therapists generally set what they charge with their own cost of living in mind, and fees tend to track local income levels.

If the fee is beyond your means, ask whether the psychologist works on a sliding scale based on income. Look at counselling through non-profit organisations, community mental health services, and any programme your employer runs.

In Lebanon the licence to ask about is the one the Lebanese Order of Psychologists issues. Law 8/2017 protects the titles clinical psychologist, educational psychologist and psychotherapist, and each of them requires that licence.

The Ministry of Public Health oversees the system and publishes the list of clinical psychologists who hold a licence, so that list answers for the clinical psychologist and not for the educational psychologist or the psychotherapist.

A psychiatrist is licensed as a doctor, so the list does not answer for one of those either. You can open the Ministry of Public Health list of licensed clinical psychologists. Search the register by name at Lebanese Order of Psychologists (LOPsy).

A current entry is that body's own published record of the person. Circular 113 covers two licensed professions, the clinical psychologist and the educational psychologist, and asks a holder to display the licence. Neither licence allows prescribing, which the circular reserves to doctors.
