About Me

When emotional distress or relationship strain begins to feel heavy, you don’t have to carry it alone. Dr. Hauwa Bello (Mumtaz) is a Clinical Health Psychologist and Psychotherapist based in Abuja, Nigeria. She works with adults, adolescents, and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, identity concerns, and relationship distress, including trust and communication challenges. Her approach is warm, structured, and evidence-based, combining psychological science with emotionally attuned and, where appropriate, faith-sensitive care. Clients often describe her as grounding, insightful, and gently challenging, offering clarity without judgment and support without dependency. Dr. Bello supports clients in developing emotional regulation, rebuilding trust, strengthening relationships, and moving forward with greater clarity, steadiness, and self-respect.

Approach

My name is Dr. Hauwa Bello, also known as Mumtaz, and I am the Founder and Clinical Director of Mumtaz Mind & Wellness Studio. I offer integrative, evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families, with a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, relational health, and psychological resilience. My work is structured, reflective, and tailored to each client’s emotional needs, history, and capacity for change. For individual therapy, I draw primarily from: 1. Cognitive and behavioral approaches 2. Psychodynamic and insight-oriented therapy 3. Trauma-informed care 4. Mindfulness-based and nervous-system–regulating practices 5. Positive psychology and strengths-based frameworks These approaches are integrated thoughtfully rather than applied rigidly, allowing therapy to remain both clinically grounded and responsive to the individual. For couples therapy, I am a Level 3–trained Gottman Method therapist, the first and only Level 3–trained Gottman therapist in Nigeria, as listed in the official Gottman Institute directory. My couples work focuses on strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, repairing emotional injuries, and fostering long-term relational stability, informed by attachment theory and emotion-focused principles. In addition to therapy, I conduct psychological assessments and testing, providing professional reports for clinical, educational, and personal development purposes. Across all my work, I aim to create a therapeutic space that is safe, focused, and purposeful—supporting clients to gain insight, develop emotional skills, and move forward with greater clarity and psychological steadiness.
