Family therapy works with the relationships between people rather than one person's symptoms. It is talking therapy aimed at improving relationships among family members ¹. It can involve any combination of them.

Families come with conflict, separation, a child's behaviour, illness or bereavement. Some come with the strain of caring for someone. A therapist may also meet members on their own.

It is not a report for a court or a school. The therapist does not decide who is at fault. Ask a practitioner who they would want in the room.

If you are afraid of someone in your family, say so to the practitioner before any joint session is booked. Ask to be seen on your own first.

Everyone on this page is listed under the professional title psychologist. Psychologists apply the study of the mind and behaviour to assist people through difficulty. Clinical psychologists work with people of all ages, with families, carers, teams and communities.

Assessment belongs to a psychologist's training, and sits alongside therapy. Clinical, counselling and educational psychology are different training routes. Each route emphasises different work.

Which titles are registered varies by country. Where the title is registered, the register says what it covers. Ask a psychologist which route they trained through, and what they work with most.

EHS publishes psychiatry consultation fees of AED 100 for a resident physician or general practitioner, AED 200 for a specialist and AED 300 for a consultant. Without a health card, 20 percent is added. Patients of all ages can use the service with a valid Emirates ID. To book a specialist outpatient appointment you also need an EHS health card and a medical referral.
