Under the Private Health Institutions Law, Royal Decree M/40, a private institution in Saudi Arabia sets its prices and the Ministry then approves them. They cannot be changed without the Ministry's agreement.

The same law requires prices to be displayed prominently. A patient is owed an approximate cost before treatment begins, and an itemised statement afterwards. Mental health care has its own statute, the Mental Health Care Law issued by Royal Decree M/56. That law governs facilities, admission and patients' rights, and it does not deal with cost.

In Saudi Arabia the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classifies and registers psychologists, and classification is required before practising. Psychologists are graded on the Commission's health-specialist ladder: specialist, senior specialist and consultant, tied to bachelor's, master's and doctoral training with supervised clinical experience.

A practitioner's grade can be checked on the SCFHS register. Psychiatrists are physicians and sit on the Commission's medical ladder, where grades such as registrar and consultant apply. Search the register by name at Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).

A current entry is that body's own published record of the person. Saudi law's list of health practitioners names psychological and social specialists, الأخصائيين النفسيين والاجتماعيين, as separate categories. Both require a licence, so a social specialist on a Saudi listing is not registered as a psychologist.
