In the Philippines, psychologists, psychometricians and guidance counsellors are licensed professions. Psychologists and psychometricians are registered by the Board of Psychology, and guidance counsellors by the Board of Guidance and Counseling, both under the Professional Regulation Commission. What proves a licence is a current certificate of registration with a professional identification card.
A psychiatrist is a physician, licensed through the Commission's Board of Medicine. You can verify a licence with the Professional Regulation Commission.
What a session costs in the Philippines depends on the practitioner's qualifications, where they practise and what they specialise in. Advertised prices tend to sit higher in Metro Manila than outside it, though how much higher is not something the published evidence can settle.
PhilHealth carries an outpatient mental health benefit with an annual limit, and HMO cover differs widely: some corporate plans include psychologists and psychiatrists, many standard plans do not. Government hospital psychiatric outpatient clinics generally take walk-in patients without a referral, and several university psychology clinics run supervised graduate students at reduced fees, assessed case by case.
