Find a Therapist In Namibia

Namibia has 10 therapists listed on TherapyRoute.

The list on this page is short, and it may not hold anyone who suits you. Two things below still apply. One is who is entitled to register as a therapist in this country. The other is what shapes the cost of a session here.

The Social Work and Psychology Act, Act No. 6 of 2004, governs psychologists in Namibia. Before rendering services, a registered person must state the fees they intend to charge. They must also state the fees usually charged for those services.

A detailed account must follow within a reasonable time. A client who disputes an account may take it to the Council. The Council determines the amount payable, and that determination binds both sides.

Until it rules, the practitioner may not sue for the money. The Act sets no tariff of its own.

The Health Professions Council of Namibia is the country's statutory regulator under the Health Professions Act. Its Social Work and Psychology Board registers both psychologists and social workers, so one authority answers for the two professions a Namibian listing is most likely to carry.

Registration is the thing to confirm, and the council publishes it openly rather than on request. Before you make contact you can check a registration on the Health Professions Council of Namibia e-register.

"Specialist" before a Namibian psychologist's title is a registered designation, and the regulations create only specialist clinical psychologist and specialist educational psychologist. A specialist psychologist must confine practice to the speciality registered in their name.
