Ireland's statutory health and social care regulator is CORU, set up under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005. Registration boards exist for psychology, counselling and psychotherapy. Their registers have not opened, so those titles are not yet reserved by law. Medical registration is the check that works today, because a psychiatrist is a doctor.
You can check a doctor on the Medical Council of Ireland register, and search the CORU register for the professions it already covers, among them social work and occupational therapy. Verify with CORU - Health and Social Care Professionals Council (CORU) or Medical Council of Ireland (MCI).
Therapy fees in Ireland are set by each practice, so what a psychologist, psychotherapist or counsellor charges depends on their qualifications, the length of the session and where they work. Therapists generally set what they charge with their own cost of living in mind.
If the fee is beyond your means, ask whether the practitioner offers a sliding scale based on income. Look at community mental health services, training clinics, and any counselling your employer provides through an assistance programme.
