Most of the practitioners listed here work in one city, and the grid below shows which. If that is where you are, start there. If it is not, the summary above sets out what the country's practitioners offer. You can also filter for practitioners who work by video.
Belgium's reimbursed psychological care is federal. It runs through mental health networks that hold a convention with the national health insurance institute. That institute is RIZIV in Dutch, INAMI in French.
First-line psychological support under the convention is directly accessible. A person needs no prescription for it, and the institute pays most of the price directly. The subsidised outpatient centres are a separate, regional matter.
Flanders and Brussels have their own centres for mental health care, recognised under a Flemish decree of 1999. See how to think about the cost of therapy.
Registration and licensing
In Belgium the title psychologist is protected, and using it lawfully depends on being entered on one official list. That list is kept by the psychologists' commission, which serves the country in French and in Dutch under a single authority. Because the requirement attaches to the title rather than to a way of working, the list settles what a practitioner may call themselves and not how they practise.
You can search the official list of psychologists in Belgium. The Loi du 10 juillet 2016 made psychotherapy a treatment delivered by someone who already holds a recognised health care profession. Psychotherapist is not itself a Belgian profession, so ask which profession the person holds.
Real choice. Authentic, independent, clinician-led care.
TherapyRoute is a clinician-led directory that champions independent practitioners who answer to you and their professional ethics. We don't take commissions, sell your data, or assign therapists by algorithm. You browse, compare, and choose.
