Ms Susan Moses

Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist offering both long- and medium-term psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples in Cape Town. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment in which to explore and confront difficulties, whether you are experiencing transient emotional distress, suffering with severe psychological distress, or are looking for support for self exploration and personal growth.

About Me

I am an experienced clinical psychologist, with a wide range of experience supporting adults with their. mental health having worked in in-patient settings (including in-patient general psychiatry, medical hospitals, and addiction care) prior to opening a full-time private practice. Recognising the central role of traumatic experience in the development and maintenance of emotional struggles, I completed further training in EMDR. I am committed to constant learning believing that this equips me best to tailor treatment to each clients specific needs in order to meet you where you are at and offer the best path for healing.

Approach

I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment in which to explore and confront difficulties. I work collaboratively, combining top-down (contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy) with bottom-up (EMDR) approaches to healing as needed. This means that together we try to identify and work with issues that may lie underneath the surface of current frustrations or problems. Thus, in addition to exploring how patterns of coping and of relating to oneself and others lead to dissatisfaction and distress, we consider and explore how these patterns were developed and maintained over time. Through the processing of emotion and building of insight within the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, more helpful patterns can begin to take root and painful feelings are alleviated.
