About Me

Hi, I’m Mara Chow, a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) offering English- and German-speaking therapy in Hamburg, Germany, and online worldwide. I work with individuals and couples navigating life transitions, relocation, expat adjustment, or recurring relational challenges. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable, and caring, yet find themselves overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Therapy with me provides a space to pause, gain clarity, and approach life with self-compassion and renewed perspective. I integrate trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches with evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), to help clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and cultivate emotional well-being. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative space where reflection and practical tools go hand-in-hand, helping you navigate challenges both in and out of therapy.

Approach

My therapy approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe that meaningful growth occurs when people feel safe, supported, and understood. Each session is tailored to the unique needs of individuals and couples, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and trauma-informed interventions. With individuals, I help clients process trauma, manage stress and mood challenges, and develop emotional resilience. With couples, I guide partners to repair trust, improve communication, and deepen emotional connection, including navigating cross-cultural relationship dynamics. Together, we focus on understanding patterns, building insight, and developing practical skills that can be applied beyond the therapy room. My goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself, strengthen your relationships, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
