Dr John Tzanos

Licensed Psychologist

I work with adults who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, overthinking, avoidance, or emotional exhaustion and want practical tools to move forward. Many of my clients are thoughtful, motivated people who want to live with more clarity, steadiness, and purpose. I help with concerns such as anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, body-focused habits like hair pulling or skin picking, chronic pain, parenting stress, and major life transitions. My goal is to help you relate differently to difficult thoughts and emotions so you can take action in ways that reflect what truly matters to you.

About Me

Working with me is structured, collaborative, and grounded in real-life application. I aim to create a space that feels both supportive and practical where we make sense of what’s happening for you and focus on skills you can use outside of session. I work best with people who are curious about themselves, open to learning, and willing to try new ways of responding to challenges. Clients often describe my style as calm, direct, and thoughtful. Therapy is not about fixing you, but about helping you build flexibility, confidence, and direction in how you live your life.

Approach

My work is grounded in evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT/CPT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and clinical hypnosis when appropriate. Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, I emphasize psychological flexibility, learning how to stay present with difficult thoughts and emotions while choosing actions guided by your values. We use mindfulness, metaphor, skills training, and gradual exposure to what’s been avoided so you can build resilience and move toward meaningful change.
