About Me
Welcome to my profile. I am a Counselling Psychologist based in Jersey, C.I. and have a range of expertise in the counselling and psychotherapy field working from an Existential / Humanistic perspective. This means that I see you as a unique individual that is perfectly imperfect, bound up with motivations and concerns. I can help you with anxiety, grief, bereavement, sexual abuse, parenting difficulties, low mood, relationship issues and low self-worth. I'll try and find a bespoke treatment approach that best fits your life.
Approach
Georgina works holistically, so discussions about health and wellbeing are part of her approach. Her counselling style is Existential / Humanistic; rather than seeing people in terms of symptoms or diagnosis, her approach centres around how we see the world and our individual experiences of it. Our relationship to those around us and our circumstances are affected by the meanings and values we hold , which affect how we are able to live.
Existential Psychotherapy has it's roots in Philosophy, it explores what a person finds meaningful in life, what is important to them. In the humanistic approach the focus is on self-development and personal growth. The client is encouraged to use their creative instincts in resolving issues. The person-centred therapist uses three core conditions i.e. by listening non-judgementally; by showing they are hearing and understanding (empathy); and by being authentic in the relationship.
The counsellor will strive to maintain the counselling relationship using these conditions as they are essential for trust to develop. As trust develops, the client begins to come to terms with their negative feelings, accept themselves in their entirety, and learn to trust in their own ability to move forward.
