I work with expats navigating uprooting and burned-out professionals rebuilding from collapse—using EMDR-informed coaching, EFT, and CBT grounded in 17 years of frontline experience.

About Me

I'm Emilia, a coach and author based in northern Poland, working in English and Polish. I spent 17 years in the UK doing frontline work with people in acute crisis—in refuges, approved premises, victim support—before returning to Poland this year. That decade-plus taught me something crucial: when people are undone by trauma, burnout, or displacement, they don't need more frameworks or positivity. They need someone who understands that rebuilding is messy, nonlinear, and requires real tools, not philosophy. I now work with two groups, and there's real overlap: expats and people returning "home" after years abroad (navigating the psychological weight of uprooting and identity loss), and burned-out professionals who've hit collapse and need to rebuild from the ground up. Both populations are stuck—either displaced or depleted—because they've lost touch with their capacity to regulate, choose, and move. My approach is grounded in EMDR-informed coaching, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), and CBT. I use these because they work quickly and they're practical—you're not paying for someone to listen while you process; you're paying for someone who knows how to shift your nervous system, untangle the stories you're believing about yourself, and give you concrete tools you can use outside the session. Sound healing and ecotherapy are part of this too, particularly for people who've lost their sense of safety or belonging in their body or in place. What it's like to work together Sessions are direct. I ask hard questions, and I expect honest answers. I notice what you're not saying as much as what you are. I won't tell you it's going to be easy or fast, but I will tell you the truth about what's possible and what it actually takes to get there. Most clients describe feeling more grounded and capable after the first session—not because I've "fixed" anything, but because we've started to untangle what's been running in the background. I work online, and sessions are typically 50-60 minutes. I structure work in blocks—usually 6-8 sessions to start—because real change requires continuity. I'm also bilingual, which matters if you're an expat; I can hold complexity in two languages in ways that monolingual therapy sometimes can't. Who this is for You're reading this if you're an expat or return migrant feeling unmoored, or if you're burned out and you know you can't go back to the way things were before. You probably know intellectually what you should do, but you can't seem to do it. You might have tried therapy before and found it wasn't enough, or you've been managing alone and you're tired. You're here because you want someone who gets it without needing you to explain the context of your life. Someone rigorous. Someone you can trust not to waste your time.

Approach

How I work: I start with a proper assessment, not jumping straight into a modality. We spend the first session understanding your history, what's triggered this now, and what's currently stuck (whether that's a trauma memory, a narrative you keep believing about yourself, burnout patterns, or all three). From there, I build a plan tailored to you, not to a preset programme. The tools I use: EMDR (bilateral stimulation + memory processing) — This works directly with traumatic or overwhelming memories that your brain hasn't fully processed. We use bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, sound) to help your nervous system metabolise the memory so it loses its charge. This is particularly effective for people who've experienced acute displacement, loss, or crisis—the memory gets filed away as past, not present threat. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) — A somatic tool that combines acupressure points with focused attention to shift how your nervous system is responding in real-time. It's fast and it works; many clients notice a tangible shift in a single session. Useful for burnout, anxiety, the physical weight of grief or displacement. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) — When the problem is partly cognitive (you're trapped in a particular story about yourself, or your behaviour is reinforcing the problem), we work directly with thought patterns and behavioural experiments. This is often the anchor for longer-term change. Which one takes the lead depends on you. Some people come in dysregulated—their nervous system is flooded—so we start with EFT or EMDR to bring them back to baseline. Others are stuck in a cognitive loop; CBT reframes first. Most work involves some of all three, sequenced based on what's actually blocking you. What this means in practice: Sessions are structured around your progress, not a formula. You won't leave with a worksheet and homework you never do; you'll leave with tools you use because they work and because you understand why. The goal isn't dependency on me, it's restoring your agency. By the end of our work together, you should be self-regulating more effectively, thinking more clearly about your situation, and moving forward without needing weekly check-ins. I typically work in blocks of 6–8 sessions initially, then reassess. This gives real continuity while keeping it finite.

Services

Burnout and recovery from professional collapse — Working with people who've hit the wall: exhaustion, cynicism, lost sense of capacity. I focus on nervous-system recovery, rebuilding sustainable patterns, and understanding what drove you to collapse (not just getting you "back to normal," which often means repeating the same pattern). Expat adjustment and displacement — The psychological toll of uprooting: loss of identity, rootlessness, cultural disorientation, grief for what you left behind. This includes both the initial adjustment to a new country and the often-overlooked challenge of return migration, coming "home" after years away and finding you don't fit anymore.
