Dr Elizabeth Coldren, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

I’m Elizabeth. For 33 years, I’ve helped people who look fine on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or trapped on the inside. With me, they feel heard, understood, and often leave with more hope about what comes next.

About Me

I bring over thirty years of experience supporting individuals through trauma, complex grief, family strain, and long‑standing relational patterns. Many of the people I work with carry significant responsibility in their careers, families, or communities, and are used to staying in motion even when they feel worn down inside. On the surface they may appear steady and capable, while privately feeling overwhelmed, numb, or on edge, unsure how much longer they can continue this way. Others come in navigating medical stress, identity shifts, or the cumulative impact of years spent coping alone. In addition to my work with individuals, a significant part of my practice focuses on family estrangement and the quieter forms of distance or rupture that unfold over time. I work with parents and adult children, or with adult siblings, who want support in understanding each other or carefully repairing their connection I offer in‑person sessions in a private Denver office and online sessions for clients in PSYPACT states. My in‑person office is intentionally private: you are the only client in the building during your appointment, with no shared waiting room or overlapping sessions.

Approach

Therapy is shaped around what you are facing and what you hope might feel different. Many people arrive with a sense that something needs to change but are not sure where to begin. We start by making space for what has been carried alone for a long time, and by noticing what it is like to receive support rather than only manage on your own. Much of change happens in relationship, in the experience of being met, understood, and not alone with what feels hard. I pay close attention to what is happening in your life and how you are experiencing it. This includes the patterns that helped you cope in the past and the ways those patterns may now feel limiting or costly. Our work may involve exploring what feels most present and painful in your life, including the impact of stress, loss, major life transitions, and long‑standing patterns that have asked more of you than your internal resources can easily sustain. My approach draws from psychodynamic, somatic, emotionally focused, and behavioral therapies, along with mindfulness‑based work, woven together in a way that fits who you are and what you are going through. Sessions may include noticing how emotion and stress show up in your body, understanding the feelings underneath your reactions, and exploring the relationships and expectations that have shaped you. I do not promise a life without problems. What often changes is your sense of yourself, your capacity to meet what comes, and the opportunity to live in a way that feels more like you. In our work together, new possibilities for relating to yourself and others can begin to open.

Basic Information

Services

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, overextended, and stuck in patterns they cannot think their way out of, even as they keep life moving on the outside. Many of my clients are high‑functioning and responsible, while privately feeling depleted, anxious, or shut down. Therapy offers a place to slow down, notice what is happening in your body and mind, and begin shifting toward a life that feels more like your own. My style is clear, thoughtful, and deeply attuned. We can work together to make sense of: Anxiety, chronic overwhelm, and difficulty slowing down ADHD Burnout and high‑pressure careers Depression, numbness, and “going through the motions” Trauma and PTSD Family estrangement, conflict, and painful distance Grief and loss, including complicated or traumatic grief
