Miss Elizabeth Alfaro-Alvear

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Experienced Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of practice supporting individuals and organisations through anxiety, stress and trauma. My approach integrates EMDR and somatic techniques to promote nervous system regulation and lasting emotional resilience.

About Me

I deliver bilingual English & Spanish 1:1 therapy and group wellness workshops to international and expatriate communities, grounded in the principle that sustainable performance is built on emotional regulation.

Approach

Individual sessions with an EMDR approach are an excellent way to modify our maladaptive neural networks in a pleasant and safe environment.

Starting our prosses. I will teach you to explore your nervous system, detect threat signals in your body, identify early emotional triggers to reduce the stress response, coping resources and much more, with the purpose of learning to transform your thought patterns, beliefs and maladaptive neural connections.

We will meet once a week or every other week for a processing session focused on the area of your interest. I will provide guidance to you throughout this procedure, ensuring that it is customized to meet your specific requirements.

We work in cooperation. From a state of total presence, I'll be there for you every step of the way. The process of EMDR processing doesn't require you to share the worst parts of your past or talk about it in depth; even if you don't express it verbally, your brain will continue to process the bodily sensations and emotions associated with the events.

This therapeutic model offers a holistic view of the person, from their vital development, attachment system, and social roles. It will help you to reduce anxious, depressive, or post-traumatic stress symptoms, integrate different aspects of yourself, as well as optimize your ability to create more spontaneous and authentic responses.

Services

I have developed expertise in utilizing the EMDR approach, somatic regulation, and Polyvagal Theory to guide the treatment process. My therapeutic approach supports nervous system functioning by incorporating psychoeducation, somatic practices for stress relief, inner child work, attachment repair, inner parts work, and memory reprocessing. Mind-body healing at the nervous system level. Have you ever been in situations that tighten your chest, shrink your body, and make it hard to think and act clearly? I understand you; I provide support to clients who are experiencing distress caused by intrusive symptoms such as an overwhelming feeling of fear, sadness, intrusive negative thoughts, or intense sensory experiences such as feeling agitated, blocked, or butterflies in the stomach. These issues are both distressing and frustrating for our daily routine, and cannot be resolved on their own. Stress can get trapped in the body and nervous system and impact natural healing. My mission is to help you find where stress is stuck in your body and help remove it, so you can feel free and reduce the overwhelming sensation. The approach focuses on regulating your nervous system's activation, shifting it from survival mode to a state of stabilization and calm. This is achieved by reducing, desensitizing, and eliminating intrusive symptoms, which allows the brain to process the adverse experience organically and return to regulating itself. If this is what you are looking for, don't hesitate to get in touch with me to set up a 15-minute free consultation and explore if this approach is a good fit for you.
