Mrs Doris d'Hooghe

Child Psychotherapist

In my work, I carry a strong belief in the uniqueness and healing capabilities of my client with a focus on the therapeutic relationship

About Me

As a Child Psychotherapist, I believe every young person holds unique strengths and inner resources for healing. My approach centres on building a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship where children feel truly seen and understood. This safe space allows them to explore feelings and challenges at their own pace. We work together to help them make sense of their world, fostering their innate ability to cope and grow.

Approach

Honouring each child's individuality, I create a predictable, slow-paced rhythm in sessions that helps them feel steady and curious. In my Gent practice, working in Dutch, English or French, that often looks like a mix of play, storytelling and simple body-based noticing so children can name and tolerate difficult feelings. For worries, relationship strains or past hurts I use trauma-informed techniques alongside practical experiments and regular check-ins with parents to extend change beyond the room. Families seeking calm, collaborative support tend to find this approach helpful.
