Mr Andrew Boxer

Registered Psychologist

I'm a published men's mental health author and recently finished my a PhD at Monash University, investigating how Buddhism and Western psychology deals with negative emotions. Additionally, I am a university-trained naturopath who has lectured in the southern hemisphere’s largest natural medicine college, Endeavour.

About Me

I’m a registered psychologist working with adults, adolescents, and couples, with a strong focus on men’s mental health. My style is direct, practical, and relational. I’m less interested in labels and more interested in what’s actually driving things for you and what will genuinely help.

Approach

I tend to work best with people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated with approaches that feel too abstract or superficial. My style is collaborative and straightforward, and I focus on helping people understand what’s driving their difficulties and what will genuinely help, rather than chasing labels or quick fixes.

Basic Information

Services

I specialise in helping people stay focused and get to the root of what’s actually driving their difficulties. I’m often told I’m more direct than other psychologists. That’s partly my personality and partly years of working with men, but it’s also intentional. Your time and money matter, and I see therapy as work we do together, not a place to talk without purpose. If something is important, we’ll cover it. If you spend twenty minutes telling me about your grandmother’s meatballs, I’ll probably step in, not because it doesn’t matter, but because we can understand the relationship quickly and move on to why it still affects you now. I try to keep sessions purposeful and focused on what actually changes things. This doesn’t mean I rush people or shut things down. Some clients need more space, and I adjust for that. But overall, my work is active, intentional, and grounded in understanding patterns, emotions, and behaviour, rather than just talking or listing generic coping strategies.
