Ms Amruta Huddar, MA

Dramatherapist

I believe that meaningful change is rarely just about talking. Our experiences are held not only in our thoughts, but also in our bodies, relationships, creativity and the communities we are part of. I am an HCPC-registered Drama and Movement Psychotherapist with 8+ years of experience working across India and the UK with adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship difficulties, trauma, life transitions, identity exploration and emotional overwhelm. My approach is grounded in the understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all path through therapy. Together, we work to understand your experiences, recognise patterns, and discover ways of responding that feel more authentic and sustainable. My practice integrates Drama and Movement Psychotherapy with embodied psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems-informed practice, developmental trauma theory, attachment theory and psychodynamic thinking. Depending on what feels appropriate, sessions may include conversation, movement, imagery, metaphor, creative expression or gentle attention to bodily experience. No prior experience with movement or the arts is needed, these are simply different ways of exploring experiences that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. I have a particular interest in working with individuals experiencing burnout, perfectionism, loneliness, relationship patterns, self-worth concerns, grief, life transitions, creative blocks and the long-term impact of developmental or relational trauma. I also enjoy supporting people who are exploring questions of identity, belonging, purpose and the complexities of being human in today's world. I see therapy as a collaborative relationship built on curiosity, compassion and respect. Rather than offering quick solutions or advice, I aim to create a space where you can better understand yourself, strengthen your relationship with your emotions and body, and develop the psychological flexibility to navigate life's challenges with greater awareness and choice.

About Me

My journey into psychotherapy has been shaped by a lifelong fascination with people, stories, movement and the arts. Before training as a Drama and Movement Psychotherapist, I studied psychology, performing arts, English literature, and later Indian aesthetics and culture, fields that continue to influence the way I think about emotions, relationships and what it means to live a meaningful life. Over the past eight years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds across India and the UK. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every person's story is unique and that therapy should honour the social, cultural and personal contexts that shape our lives. Outside of the therapy room, I continue to engage with movement, Indian classical dance, research and creative practice. I enjoy exploring the intersections of psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, mythology and the arts, and I am continually inspired by how these disciplines deepen our understanding of ourselves and one another. I approach my work with curiosity, authenticity and respect. Whether you are navigating a specific challenge or simply trying to make sense of where you are in life, I hope to offer a space where you feel seen, heard and supported in exploring your experiences at your own pace.

Approach

I work from the belief that our experiences are shaped not only by our thoughts, but also by our bodies, relationships, imagination and the wider social and cultural contexts we inhabit. While conversation is often central to therapy, there are times when words alone do not capture the complexity of what we are experiencing. Drawing on Drama and Movement Psychotherapy, alongside embodied psychotherapy, attachment-informed and psychodynamic approaches, I tailor each session to the individual rather than following a fixed structure. Depending on what feels appropriate, we might explore experiences through conversation, movement, imagery, metaphor, storytelling or other creative processes. These are always offered as invitations rather than expectations, and no prior experience with movement or the arts is needed. I tend to work at a pace that feels collaborative and responsive. We might slow down to notice what is happening in the body, reflect on recurring relational patterns, or explore practical ways of integrating new awareness into everyday life through small, meaningful experiments between sessions. Throughout the process, you remain an active participant in shaping the direction, pace and focus of our work together. I work with adults, offering therapy online, in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada.
