This page lists Male Addiction Family Therapists in San Francisco. 3 in all.
That is 3 of the 5 family therapists listed in San Francisco.
These are practitioners who identify as male on their profile 1. We ask every therapist that question, and they may decline to answer. We do not check the answer, and nothing here is ranked.
This list answers an explicit request for a man. While many people prefer this, we found no research on whether it changes how the therapy goes.
Identifying as a man is a different thing from working with men's concerns. A client and a practitioner always differ, whatever they share 2.
What addiction treatment covers
Addiction covers alcohol, other drugs, and behaviours such as gambling. Psychological treatment is only one part of addiction care.
Screening, brief intervention and treatment all exist for hazardous drinking 3. Those services do not reach most of the people who need them.
Treatments used include cognitive behavioural and behavioural therapies 4. Some work through a person's social network and environment.
Guidelines recommend a range of treatments for opioid dependence 5. Those include maintenance treatment with methadone or buprenorphine, alongside psychosocial treatment and support.
Detoxification alone is not treatment 6. Ask a practitioner what they treat, and where they refer.
What a family therapist does, and who comes to the sessions
Everyone on this page describes their work as family or systemic therapy. Family therapy helps people in close relationships understand and support each other 7. It works with the relationships between people, not with one person alone.
Family here means whoever those involved count as family. Sessions usually have more than one person in the room.
A therapist may also meet members on their own 8. Ask a practitioner who they would want in the room.
What this page filters on
These are the only filters: the practitioner's stated Male identity, the specialism recorded as Addiction and the professional title family therapist.
Paying for therapy in San Francisco
Do affordable options exist in San Francisco?
Mission Mental Health Services (SFDPH Behavioral Health Services). Phone +1 628 754 8800. The current 2026 Behavioral Health Services handbook says most Medi-Cal members pay nothing. Members above the income limits may owe a monthly share of the cost, and some treatment can require a copayment. The service is accepting new beneficiaries through Behavioral Health Access. It gives priority to certain populations, and you must meet the Medi-Cal eligibility and service area criteria.
