This page lists Black ADHD Psychologists in Nairobi. 6 in all.
That is 6 of the 12 psychologists listed in Nairobi.
These are practitioners who identify as Black on their profile. It is their own answer to a profile question. We do not check it.
The request is usually narrower: a practitioner who will name race early, without you having to explain yourself. Some family therapy approaches recommend the therapist raise it near the start 1. You can ask a practitioner how they handle it.
ADHD assessment and support
ADHD affects attention, activity and impulse control. It continues into adulthood for many people. A diagnosis comes from a specialist assessment, not from a first therapy session.
Treatments that work for ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions include psychosocial and behavioural interventions 2. For some diagnoses and ages, a doctor may also consider medicine.
Ask a practitioner whether they assess, treat, or both.
What a psychologist does, and where assessment fits in
Everyone on this page is listed under the professional title psychologist. Psychologists apply the study of the mind and behaviour to assist people through difficulty. Clinical psychologists work with people of all ages, with families, carers, teams and communities.
Assessment belongs to a psychologist's training, and sits alongside therapy. Clinical, counselling and educational psychology are different training routes. Each route emphasises different work.
Which titles are registered varies by country. Where the title is registered, the register says what it covers. Ask a psychologist which route they trained through, and what they work with most.
What this page filters on
These are the only filters: the practitioner's stated Black identity, the specialism recorded as ADHD and the professional title psychologist.
The Nairobi page answers more questions about therapy there.
Paying for therapy in Nairobi
Do affordable options exist in Nairobi?
Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital - General Mental Health Outpatient Services. Phone +254 20 2337694. Kenya's Social Health Authority covers mental health care in its benefits package. Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital is accredited by the Authority and says so in its own public material. To use that cover you must be registered with the Authority, and what it pays for is set by its benefit rules. The hospital runs an ordinary outpatient clinic from Monday to Friday. Ring the hospital's enquiries line to arrange an appointment. It is an enquiries line, not a crisis line.
Who registers therapists in Kenya?
The title you will see is Psychologist. The register is held by the Counsellors and Psychologists Board (CPB). The Board's online check asks for an application number, not a name.
