Find Teen Psychotherapists in Dublin, Ireland

A therapist shapes the work to the teenager's age. It is not adult therapy cut short.

Physical, emotional and social change in adolescence can make young people vulnerable to mental health problems ¹.

Work often covers anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, school, friendships and conflict at home. A therapist handles confidentiality differently with a young person than with an adult.

A therapist usually involves parents to some degree. Ask a practitioner at the start what will be shared with you.

Everyone on this page describes their work as psychotherapy. A psychotherapist works through talking with you about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours ².

Psychotherapy usually runs longer than counselling and aims for clinical change. It works on patterns that repeat rather than on one current problem.

A psychotherapist trains in psychological treatment rather than in medicine. What that training covers, and which approach a practitioner uses, differ between practitioners. Ask which approach a psychotherapist trained in, and how long they usually work.
