How Much Does Therapy Cost in Valencia in 2026?

Mental health care sits inside Spain's National Health System common services portfolio, in primary and specialised care alike, and SNS care is free at the point of use. Privately, practices in Valencia that publish their rates charge about €60 to €75 for an individual session. No official schedule of private prices exists, and by law none can: Spanish law forbids the psychologists' professional colleges from recommending fees.

These are guiding estimates. Therapists set their own fees.

The public route

The route in Valencia runs through your health centre: your family doctor refers you to the local mental health unit for psychiatric and psychological care. The legal basis is Royal Decree 1030/2006, which places mental health inside the SNS common portfolio for both primary care and specialised care; being in the portfolio is what makes it free at the point of use for people covered by the system. The Conselleria de Sanitat of the Generalitat Valenciana runs those units through its Servicio de Salud Mental and sets the practical details; in the city they include the Centro de Salud Mental de Valencia Trinitat.

The honest caveat is the one Spain's public debate centres on: waiting times for psychology within the SNS vary widely by region and service, and paying privately in Valencia is mostly paying to be seen sooner and more often.

What practices charge

Since no body may publish a schedule, the real evidence is what practices publish themselves. Those in Valencia that do sit at €60 to €70 for an individual session, with couples work at €75 to €90. One Valencia psychiatric practice publishes €120 for a first visit, which is the usual pattern: psychiatric review costs more than a therapy hour. These figures were read on five practices' own price pages in August 2026; they are examples of what is charged here, not a survey. Many practices offer packages or reduced rates, and asking costs nothing.

Why there is no official price list, by law

Since the 2009 amendment to the Law on Professional Colleges (Ley 2/1974), colleges may not issue "recommendations on fees or any other guidance, recommendation, directive, norm or rule about professional fees". The competition authority has fined professional colleges for keeping guiding price scales, bar associations among them. Any site quoting an official or standard Valencia psychology rate is quoting something that cannot exist; only practices' own published prices, like those above, are real figures.

Cheaper routes, and who is qualified to charge

Beyond the public route, the Universitat de València runs a Psychology Clinic through its Fundació Lluís Alcanyís on C/ Gascó Oliag, which offers a free psychological care programme. That programme is for the university's own students, so it is worth knowing about if you are one and not if you are not.

Whatever you pay, check who you are paying. Practising psychology in the Spanish health sector is a regulated profession: a Psicólogo General Sanitario holds a psychology degree plus the official Master's in General Health Psychology, and the consulting room itself has to be entered on the regional register of health centres and services. A practitioner will tell you both if you ask, and a €60 session from someone who holds neither is not the same purchase.
