How Much Does Therapy Cost in Tehran in 2026?

Tehran runs on Iran's state tariff, and the table holds a surprise: where you are seen moves the price more than who sees you, with the same practitioner costing about two and a half times more privately than at a state centre. The 1405 schedule expires in March 2027.

Iran sets an official state price list for psychology and counselling sessions. The Cabinet-approved tariff for 1405 (March 2026 to March 2027) prices a 45-minute session by the practitioner's qualification and the type of facility, nationwide. At a state facility a session with a master's-level psychologist is 2,963,250 rials (about 296,000 tomans); in the private sector a senior doctorate-level session tops the schedule at 10,806,000 rials (about 1,081,000 tomans).

These are guiding estimates. Practitioners set their own fees where the tariff is not enforced; the schedule is the official benchmark.

All figures are rials per 45-minute session. (Iranians usually quote prices in tomans; one toman is ten rials.)

Two facts follow from the table. The facility type moves the price more than the qualification does: the same practitioner costs roughly two and a half times more privately than at a state centre. And because the schedule is annual, any figure quoted from an earlier year is obsolete; the tariff is re-approved each Persian year, and 1405 figures expire in March 2027.

How to use it

At state facilities the tariff is what you pay; at private practices in Tehran it is the official benchmark to ask about. The Psychology and Counselling Organization, which announces the schedule, states that compliance is overseen nationwide; a practice charging far above the private-sector line is charging above the state's own price. Whether health insurance contributes to psychology sessions varies by insurer and policy; ask yours, and treat the tariff as the reference figure.
