What therapy costs in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe's public system is meant to be entered at primary care level. From there a person is referred up to district, provincial and central hospitals. Under the Mental Health Act, psychotropic medication is to be supplied free in public facilities. The rest runs largely on user fees.
The Health Professions Act sets no scale of charges to patients. Its fee sections are about what a practitioner pays a council. The Friendship Bench works alongside the Ministry of Health and Child Care. It offers talk therapy at no cost.

Who is allowed to practise
In Zimbabwe, the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe registers psychologists and clinical social workers under the Health Professions Act, Chapter 27:19. The Council's own register also lists counsellors.
Family therapist is not one of the titles the Council registers, so a practitioner using it holds registration in another category, or none. Psychiatrists are doctors, and they answer to the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe instead.
The two councils keep separate registers, so start from the title a practitioner gives you. The Council's portal publishes a list of compliant practitioners and a certificate check. For a psychiatrist, open the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe.
Search the register by name at Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ). Check that the name and title match and that the entry is current. If they do not, ask the practitioner why. Psychologist and counsellor registrations each have their own requirements.
Only the psychology route asks for a letter of commitment from an internship supervisor.
