In Germany the title to look for is Psychotherapeut. Only a state-licensed person may use it, and that licence is the Approbation, granted under the Psychotherapeutengesetz. A psychology-trained holder is a Psychologischer Psychotherapeut, and the licensed title for work with children and young people is Kinder- und Jugendlichenpsychotherapeut.
Someone described as Psychologe holds a psychology degree rather than a treatment licence. A Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie works under a different permission and is normally paid privately. You can open the federal chamber's therapist search.
In Germany the question is usually which insurance you have rather than what a therapist charges. Statutory health insurance covers prescribed psychotherapy with no co-payment for the sessions, and the system's own standard treats waiting more than three months as unreasonable. If no covered therapy place can be found, you have a legal right to have treatment at a private practice reimbursed by your statutory insurer.
The Patientenservice 116117 arranges appointments with psychotherapists for people with statutory insurance. Not every licensed psychotherapist can bill statutory insurance; a Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie normally cannot. Paying privately, fees are set by each practitioner and rarely published, so ask the rate per session before you begin.
