Therapists generally set what they charge with their own cost of living in mind, and fees tend to track local income levels. If the fee is beyond your means, ask whether the psychologist offers a sliding scale based on income.

In Brazil a registered psychologist is bound by the Código de Ética Profissional do Psicólogo, and breaching it is a disciplinary matter for the council. They commonly include a serious and immediate danger to you or to another person, and abuse of a child or of a vulnerable adult. A court order or a subpoena can also compel disclosure.
