In Brazil a psicólogo registers with the Conselho Regional de Psicologia for their area. The Conselho Federal de Psicologia runs the national register those regional entries feed. Psicoterapeuta, terapeuta and coach are not separately protected titles.
So a person offering therapy answers to a council only as a psychologist or as a doctor. Psychiatrists are checked as doctors, through the medical councils.
You can search the Conselho Federal de Psicologia national register and look up a doctor with the Conselho Federal de Medicina. Verify with Conselho Federal de Psicologia (CFP), Conselho Regional de Psicologia (CRP) or Conselho Federal de Medicina (CFM).
Therapy fees in Brazil are set by each practice, so what a psychologist or psychiatrist charges varies with their qualifications, the length of the session and the city they work in. Therapists generally set what they charge with their own cost of living in mind, and fees tend to track local income levels. If the fee is beyond your means, ask whether the psychologist offers a sliding scale based on income.
Look at community mental health services, university training clinics, and counselling offered through an employer's assistance programme. Group sessions usually cost less than individual ones.
