Family Therapist

verified by TherapyRoute

I am a family and relationship therapist with over 20 years of experience. I offer individual, couple, and family therapy in Rotterdam and online. Mitos is a Greek- and English-speaking therapy practice. I provide a culturally sensitive and supportive space for people navigating relationships, identity, family dynamics, and life transitions, including international couples, families, and individuals living between cultures.

About Me

My passion lies in helping people strengthen their relationships with loved ones and supporting individuals, couples, and families living between cultures. I am particularly passionate about working with parents and supporting them through the challenges and transitions of parenthood. I grew up in Greece and initially trained as a Social Worker. I later lived in Ireland and the United Kingdom, where I trained and worked as a Systemic Psychotherapist within mental health services, supporting adults, children, and adolescents. These experiences deepened my understanding of how mental health affects not only individuals but also those who care about them. I came to appreciate how relationship difficulties can profoundly impact wellbeing, while recognising that significant relationships can also play a vital role in a person’s journey toward healing and growth. In 2020, I moved to Rotterdam with my family and established my independent practice, Mitos Relationship and Family Therapy, offering therapy for individuals, couples, and families. I am a registered therapist with the following professional organisations: UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT UK) – Registered Therapist and Approved Supervisor, Nederlandse Vereniging voor Relatie- en Gezinstherapie (NVRG), European Association for Psychotherapy (ECP – European Certificate of Psychotherapy). I am also an approved Systemic Supervisor with NVRG, AFT, and UKCP. I provide supervision to professionals working with families and to those interested in developing their knowledge of Systemic Therapy or Nonviolent Resistance (NVR), including practitioners seeking to meet the registration requirements of UKCP, NVRG, and SKJ.

Approach

As a Systemic and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) therapist, I specialise in relationships. I work with individuals experiencing difficulties within their family, couple, or other significant relationships. Family, or systemic, therapy helps those facing relational challenges safely discuss difficult thoughts and emotions, understand one another’s perspectives, experiences, and needs, and support meaningful communication. It also enables those affected by another person’s difficulties to become part of the solution. Working together in this way can help foster closer, stronger relationships and create meaningful change. I embrace diversity and strive to address inequalities of all kinds. I work with all types of families and individuals from diverse sexual orientations, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds. I am committed to providing a therapeutic practice that celebrates diversity and is inclusive of people of all sexual orientations, cultures, religious and spiritual beliefs, and intellectual and physical abilities. I am passionate about social justice and about exploring inequalities and their impact on people’s identities and lives. The therapeutic approaches I use in my work are grounded in Systemic Psychotherapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), and Nonviolent Resistance.

Basic Information

Services

Adults: Sometimes relationships difficulties can impact on our wellbeing. Sometimes it's the other way around, our mental health or other difficulties impact on our most important relationships. I work with anyone who experiences difficulties in their wellbeing or mental health (anxiety, depression, stress, health issues) as result of a difficulty in a significant relationship, past or current. I also work with people who want the help of their loved ones in improving their mental health. Therapy can take place individually, in family or as a couple. I also provide couples therapy. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (Advanced level, Core Skills) and I work with many couples who want to improve their communication and relationship satisfaction. Children and families: Family therapy is very useful for families supporting children who struggle with depression, anxiety, ASD, behaviour concerns, isolation, trauma, loss, illness, and big transitions. I have a lot of training and experience in Non-Violent Resistance with parents of children who display aggressive, controlling or self-destructive behaviours. I work with children in the context of family therapy. This might mean joint sessions with parents and children or separate sessions for children and their parents, with some joint sessions as needed. I also work with parents who want help with concerns about their child/children when the children do not wish to see a professional. I also offer parent support groups for anyone wanting support to navigate parenthood and its challenges.
