About Me

I’m Susan Mwai, a professional counsellor and therapist based in Nairobi, and I’ve spent over 10 years supporting individuals, couples, and families through some of life’s most difficult and defining moments. People often come to me when things feel overwhelming, when anxiety won’t quiet down, when relationships feel strained, or when life simply stops making sense. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in. You just need to be willing to start. My work is grounded in creating a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. I listen deeply, not just to what you say, but to what you may be struggling to express. From there, we begin to make sense of your experiences in a way that feels manageable and real. I take a client-centered approach, meaning we move at your pace. I integrate evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with practical, supportive conversations that help you build insight, emotional resilience, and healthier ways of coping. Over the years, I’ve worked with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationship challenges. While every story is different, the goal is always the same, to help you feel more grounded, more clear, and more in control of your life. Therapy with me is not about judgment or quick fixes. It’s about honest conversations, steady support, and meaningful progress. If you’re ready to begin, I’m here.

Approach

My approach to therapy is simple: you are met with respect, honesty, and genuine understanding from the moment you walk in. I work from a client-centered foundation, which means our sessions are guided by your needs, your pace, and your goals. There is no pressure to have the right words or immediate answers, we take the time to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. I combine deep listening with practical, evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you make sense of your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Together, we identify what may be keeping you stuck and begin to build healthier ways of coping and responding. Our work is collaborative. I don’t position myself above you, I walk with you. At the same time, I will gently challenge you where needed, so that growth is not just talked about, but experienced. Some sessions may feel reflective and slow, while others may be more structured and focused. Both are intentional. The goal is to help you gain clarity, emotional balance, and the ability to navigate your life with more confidence. Above all, I aim to create a space that feels safe, non-judgmental, and real, where you can explore, question, and grow without fear.
