I attend to what the client brings to the therapy session, and customise my input so it focuses on their needs. My approach is directive by way of helping clients make connections and develop understanding of issues that may previously have been confusing or unclear: I try to help to "put a handle" on their experiences and inspire confidence in their capacity to manage issues which may be of concern. Sessions are offered in English from my Kelmscott office or via telehealth. With couples, I can help in reducing conflict and tensions by helping the participants to identify and take responsibility for any salient unfinished emotional business from the past than may be triggered or aroused within the relationship, and which may in the past have been externalised or blamed on others. Where necessary I help clients appreciate the operation of schemas and habits, and encourage the development of awareness of recurring negative thoughts that maintain and reinforce certain negative feelings, and also encourage the healing of upset feelings through emotional processing in a supportive environment so they can apply the procedures as necessary in the future. I help clients to recognise the mental content arising from thwarted psychological needs that shape depression and/or anxiety, or concerns with trust.
