Online Psychotherapy

Deep meaningful therapy wherever you are

What kind of issues can therapy help me with?

People seek psychotherapy for all kinds of different reasons. Perhaps you are suffering with a particular issue, such as anxiety, grief, depression, relationship struggles, or a major life change. At other times, it may be harder to put a finger on what exactly draws you to therapy. Whatever it is that has bought you here, you are most welcome to get in touch to explore how psychotherapy may be able to help you.

How does it work?

Psychotherapy works by creating a safe, consistent and responsive space that facilitates a process of psychological growth. When the right conditions are provided, the psyche naturally begins a sophisticated process of healing, much like a seed will germinate and undergo a process of complex growth when the environment is right. As a therapist, I don’t try to direct this process too forcefully. Instead, I pay close attention to what’s emerging in the moment, supporting the process and allowing it unfold as it needs.

Some problems in life can’t be quickly fixed, but by engaging in a process of inner growth, we can learn to live fully and thrive amongst the difficulties that we find ourselves in. Psychotherapy offers the support, insight, and containment needed to help that process unfold at depth.

Why online psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy works best with consistency and regularity. For many people, travelling to the same physical location at the same time each week simply isn't viable. In these situations, working online allows you to access deep long-term therapy where it otherwise may not have been possible.

Therapy doesn’t have to happen in the same room to be powerful. Many people are surprised by the quality of presence and connection they experience online, especially when attention is paid to ensuring that the audio and visual components of online work are optimised in order to create an immersive experience.

What kind of people do I work with?

I work with adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. Open-mindedness, compassion, respect, and confidentiality are at the heart of my practice. I strive to offer a therapeutic space that’s thoughtful and responsive to the complex factors that shape who we are, including, but not limited to: class, disability, age, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. My intention is to meet each person as they are, with sensitivity to the unique layers of their identity and experience.

Training, qualifications & experience

A fully qualified psychotherapist and registered member of the UKCP, Joe holds an MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy from the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. He has over 10 years of experience in the field and has also volunteered as a bereavement counsellor with Cruse Bereavement Care.

Joe is an integrative psychotherapist specialising in long-term one-to-one therapy and working at depth. His approach is informed by developmental, humanistic, relational and transpersonal theories and methods (described below).

Developmental - the way in which we see the world is influenced by the experiences we have had in the past. By understanding how these experiences have shaped us, we can evaluate the lessons that they have taught us and discard the beliefs that are no longer serving us.

Humanistic - places the importance on the experience and autonomy of the client. In other words, the therapy is directed by you.

Relational - the relationship formed between the client and therapist is of the utmost importance. Not only does the quality of this relationship enable the psychotherapy process to unfold, but it can be an important point of insight and discovery itself. The therapy relationship provides a unique opportunity to analyse and understand how we show up in relationships by being able to reflect on and understand the relationship that is unfolding in real-time, between the therapist and client.

Transpersonal - what happens in our psychological lives includes more than just our personal psychologies. We do not exist in isolation and our lives can't be fully understood by just focusing on our own personal psychologies. Space is given to spiritual, societal, political and collective dimensions, should you decide to bring them.
