I believe in providing an evidence based and result oriented approach to therapy while offering a kind and warm environment to open up.

About Me

I am a Spanish/American therapist living in Rotterdam. During my upbringing, I moved every few years to several countries in North America, Europe, and Asia, so I am no stranger to change and the challenges that it can bring. In my education I completed my BSc. in Psychology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and my MSc. in Clinical Psychology at Utrecht University. During my later education, I acquired the skills and practice to treat a wide range of problems and disorders, specifically specializing in anxiety, trauma, and depressive disorders. I chose to begin studying this field at the age of 16 because I have always been fascinated by the human mind and why certain behaviors and thoughts occur, as well as what we can do to change them. I believe that the mind and the body are very closely connected, and through careful examination of oneself and the communication between the physical and the mental, many challenges can be overcome. I am a native speaker in both English and Spanish, and I offer therapy both in person and online, depending on your preference.

Approach

The first step in our therapeutic relationship is to have an intake session. In this first session, we get to know each other and the reason why we are meeting. This meeting is meant to provide the information needed to make a specific treatment plan according to your needs. For your peace of mind, I offer the first session for free. In the second session, we discuss the treatment plan to make any necessary adjustments and we begin with the treatment. The idea of the plan is to have a specific time frame with concrete goals set by you to work towards. Typically, this consists of eight sessions together, however if more sessions are needed in the end, treatment can be extended. For our last sessions, the focus is on learning techniques to maintain what you acquired in our sessions after treatment ends and relapse prevention. I offer the possibility of one or more follow up sessions three months after treatment has ended to check in with you and see how things are going, however this is completely up to you. I work in a compassionate and collaborative way that is tailored directly to you, however I make a point of staying up to date with the most recent research and using only evidence based techniques that have been shown to be effective. My goal is to create a safe space that encourages reflection and discussion in order to provide an environment that promotes healing. I believe that the most effective treatment begins once you are truly able to look at yourself without judgement. In order to do this, I use mindfulness training and breath work when needed to calm and recenter the mind and body. In treating problems relating to anxiety and depression, I find that cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is effective and can be adapted to many scenarios and made very individual to you and your specific situation. In some cases, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) may be more appropriate, or even used in conjunction with CBT. For issues relating to trauma, the most effective treatment route varies much more and heavily depends on the person and the trauma event. In addition to the aforementioned issues, I also treat a variety of other disorders and complaints which are furthur explained on my profile. I am confident in my skills and my ability to help you, however I will always be honest and transparent with you. If I believe that you can receive better help for your problem with someone else, I will let you know and refer you.

Through my own practice I have been able to specialize in: Anxiety Depressive disorders Trauma / PTSD Relationship difficulties / Couples counseling Stress management / Burnout Panic attacks / Panic disorder Eating disorders However, I believe that very rarely does someone present with one specific isolated disorder or symptom. In my experience, the situation usually involves aspects from many different branches.
