Dr John Farnsworth

Psychotherapist

I am known as a warm practitioner. I have over twenty years experience with individuals, groups and collectives. I work long- and short-term, easily in person and online. This is true for therapy or professional supervision.

About Me

I am a licensed psychotherapist. I practise in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. I help people recover from trauma and build practical personal-development skills while providing clinical supervision and leading group therapy.

Approach

My primary focus is on listening and attending as openly as I can. But I'm also aware short introductions like this offer little real idea of how you and I might work well together. So, this is purposely short - and I'd always suggest we have a trial to see if we both feel there's a potential for real engagement and working together. For me, it matters whether you feel you could trust the working relationship over time. I enjoy face-to-face and online work, short- and long-term. I am experienced in both so that neither gets in the way of what needs to be present. I shan't try to summarize what psychological difficulties I'm familiar with. Enough to say that some issues can't be engaged with well online. If, so I would rather meet you in person, if possible. Also, no long list of theoretical leanings. Rather, I have been lucky to have excellent teachers. I have also trained and worked intensively, in group and individual settings. And I have a broad blend of experience across different approaches. These have offered me a spontaneity and authenticity which I deeply value - and I would want to offer that to anyone I work with. If this interests you, do get in touch
