Registered Clinical Counselor

Hi, I'm Jen! I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor offering in-person and online counselling services. I help adults struggling with the impacts of trauma, and couples who are looking to improve their communciation and strengthen their realtionship.

About Me

My clients have described me as having a calm, kind, quiet, and confident energy. I’ve been told that I ask good and sometimes hard questions to nudge you towards the root of your struggles. I approach all things with curiosity, and tend to be pragmatic and straightforward when we’re trying to make sense of things that are often abstract and not so clear-cut. I think there’s value in seeing the humour in things, and it’s likely that at some point we’ll probably do some laughing together! Everyone is unique, and I tailor my approach to what works best for you. I always work to balance offering a supportive and comfortable place to explore your struggles while also guiding you towards the root of your issue. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get in there with you, but will check in to make sure that we’re going at a speed and depth that feels right for you. I work holistically, addressing the underlying themes present in your life while also offering practical tools you can use in the day-to-day.

Approach

Many of the clients I’ve worked with feel overwhelmed by their emotions. On the outside they are able to be successful through a lot of hard work, but inside they feel like they’re barely holding it together. They’ve spent a long time silencing what they really think and feel inside because they’re afraid they’ll be rejected if they share their full selves with others. They feel alone, and afraid to commit to big life changes like a new job or a new relationship because they feel like they’re not good enough to succeed and get what they want. For a long time, it’s felt easier to keep things as they are and keep doing what others expect of them. Together we can explore and change the underlying patterns that are keeping you stuck.Through counselling you can build confidence managing emotions, setting boundaries and having more of what you want in relationships. You can accept and even like who you are and have the confidence to make changes in your life that bring satisfaction at work, connection and closeness in relationships, and trust yourself to get through the hard things. I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss what you’re hoping for from counselling and answer any questions you may have.
