“Experienced in both social work and psychotherapy practice, I bring a compassionate and client-centered approach to my work. I ensure that clients feel heard and understood, and I am known for my patient, calm demeanor that fosters a safe and trusting environment. As an empathetic listener, I connect with individuals on a deeper level, which allows me to support them effectively through various challenges such as relationship problems, self-esteem issues, grief and general life experiences and stress.”
About Me
I am Janika, a warranted Gestalt Psychotherapist working with adolescents and adults, offering a supportive and relational space where you can explore your experiences safely and at your own pace.
My professional background includes several years working as a Social Worker within the Foundation For Social Welfare Service. I have also provided support to survivors of sexual assault, delivered outreach programmes at MCAST, and facilitated supervised access visits between children and their biological parents. These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of trauma, resilience, and the complexity of relational dynamics.
I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma-related difficulties, emotional distress, low self-esteem, behavioural challenges, and relational struggles. I also welcome those who may not have understand yet what they are going through, but feel a desire to understand themselves more deeply or move through life with greater clarity and authenticity.
My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in the principles of Gestalt psychotherapy. I value meeting you where you are, with empathy, curiosity, and respect for your unique story. Together, we explore your present experience, increase awareness, and reconnect you with your internal resources, resilience, and sense of agency.
I aim to offer a grounded and containing presence, with any particular you are experiencing. Therapy, for me, is a collaborative process, one that honours your pace, supports meaningful growth, and encourages lasting change.
Approach
Much of my professional journey has involved working with individuals impacted by trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, emotional distress, and complex family dynamics. Because of this, I am particularly attuned to how past experiences can shape present patterns, in relationships, in the body, and in the way we speak to ourselves. You may come to therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, struggling in relationships, navigating a transition, or carrying experiences that still feel unresolved. You may simply sense that something within you needs attention. Whatever brings you, you will be met with empathy, respect, and care.
Our work together is collaborative and rooted in the present moment. We gently explore what is happening within you, your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and relational patterns, while building awareness of creative adjustments that may once have protected you but no longer serve you. Through this process, we strengthen your internal resources, resilience, and sense of agency.
I aim to offer a steady, containing presence, especially when working with emotionally complex or trauma-related experiences. Over time, therapy can support you in developing greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and the confidence to respond to life with clarity, authenticity, and choice.
