About Me

Hi, I’m James. I’ve spent much of my career sitting with people in some of the hardest moments of their lives—through grief, through cancer, and through the kind of pain that doesn’t always have easy words. That work has shaped how I show up as a therapist. For many years, I was Counselling Lead at Big C, Norfolk’s cancer support charity, where I managed the service, supervised a team of counsellors, and held my own caseload. I now work in private practice and also deliver training to the NHS, which I genuinely enjoy. I’m a registered member of the BACP, with a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, an Advanced Certificate in Bereavement and Loss, and a Diploma in Relationship and Couples Counselling. Alongside this, I bring a grounded, human approach to my work. Outside of therapy, you’ll often find me in the garden, on a yoga mat, or out walking with my dog, things that help me stay steady, which I believe is an important part of being able to support others.

Approach

Starting therapy can feel daunting, so I aim to make the process as straightforward and comfortable as possible. I offer a free 30-minute telephone or video call before we begin a relaxed, no-pressure conversation where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right. In our sessions, I take time to really understand you not just what’s brought you to therapy, but who you are, what matters to you, and what you’re hoping for. I work integratively, which means I don’t follow a rigid model. Instead, I draw on different approaches depending on what will be most helpful, whether that’s exploring patterns from your past, making sense of what’s happening now, or finding ways to move forward. What remains consistent is the relationship itself. I aim to be open, honest, and genuinely curious about your experience. You won’t be judged here. I offer both short-term and longer-term work, with 50-minute sessions, and we’ll always work at a pace that feels right for you.

Basic Information

Services

Are you struggling with grief, or carrying the weight of a loss that feels hard to put into words? Have you or someone close to you been affected by cancer, leaving you unsure how to cope or what comes next? I specialise in supporting people through grief, bereavement, serious illness, and life-changing experiences. This includes working with the emotional impact of death and dying, cancer, and the wider effects these experiences can have on identity, relationships, and everyday life. Alongside this, I also support clients with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, trauma, questions around identity, and life transitions, often when these are connected to deeper experiences of loss or change. I offer one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy online across the UK, as well as in-person sessions in central Norwich. Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to work through it alone. If you’d like to talk, you’re welcome to get in touch, your first 30-minute consultation is free and without obligation.
