Ms Helen Sproat

Psychotherapist

UKCP existential-analytic psychotherapist offering a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore challenges and deepen self-understanding.

About Me

I am a UK-born, native English speaker, registered and accredited with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) as an existential-analytic psychotherapist. I trained in the UK to UKCP standards, and now offer psychotherapy for English speakers in Lisbon as well as online sessions for clients in other locations. Having begun my own therapeutic journey as a client, I believe psychotherapy can create a unique relationship that supports a person’s ability to free themselves from the influence of past and present experiences. This process can help you understand yourself more deeply and gain greater clarity about your desires and how to pursue them in order to live more authentically.

Approach

As an existential psychotherapist, my approach is phenomenological. This means therapy is tailored to each person, taking into account their specific needs and difficulties without relying on labels or diagnoses. I prioritise the therapeutic relationship, while my practice is influenced by existential, psychoanalytic, and postmodern thought. This integrative approach allows me to draw on different perspectives as appropriate for each person and their unique circumstances. Short-term work can be helpful if you’re in crisis or going through a period of acute distress. It can be suitable for addressing immediate challenges, or it can lead naturally into medium- or long-term therapy. Longer-term work offers space for deeper exploration of your life, relationships, and the patterns you may find yourself repeating.
