Mrs Heidi Steijnberg

Registered Counselor

I offer counselling for adolescents and adults who are trying to make sense of what they are experiencing, whether that is feeling overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, or disconnected from themselves. My work focuses on helping you understand your thoughts, emotional patterns, and behaviours, and how these are shaping your current challenges. The aim is not just to cope, but to gain real insight. From there, we can work toward clearer decisions, greater self-understanding, and changes that feel more grounded and aligned with who you are.

About Me

I am a registered counsellor and psychometrist, working with individuals who are navigating emotional, developmental, and decision-making challenges. My work is shaped by a natural curiosity about people; how they think, what they feel, and the patterns that influence their decisions and behaviour. I am particularly drawn to working with individuals who are reflective but feel stuck, uncertain, or unable to move forward in a way that feels right to them. This often includes adolescents experiencing stress, as well as adults facing uncertainty, transition, or internal conflict. My aim is to bring a calm, thoughtful presence to the work, creating a space where people can slow down, be heard, and explore what is really going on beneath the surface. At the same time, I value structure and direction, ensuring that the process remains purposeful and leads to practical understanding and meaningful change.

Approach

My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and person-centred, drawing on methods such as CBT, BWRT, and narrative work. At the core of my work is the counselling relationship. I aim to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and seen, because meaningful insight and change often begin there. I naturally work with patterns, helping you recognise how your thoughts, emotions, and past experiences connect and influence your current challenges. Together, we make sense of what may feel confusing, repetitive, or difficult to shift, and begin to unlock a clearer understanding of what is happening beneath the surface. Alongside this insight, I focus on supporting practical movement, whether that is navigating decisions, managing emotions more effectively, or exploring ways of engaging with your life that feel more aligned. The process is collaborative, thoughtful, and paced in a way that allows both depth and progress.
