Mrs Gimhani Gunawardena

Clinical Psychologist

I am working as a psychologist for 12 years in the field of counselling mainly with children, parents. I conduct Training for schools on mental health.

About Me

As a clinical psychologist with 12 years’ experience, I specialise in helping children and parents navigate emotional challenges. My MSc in Clinical & Health Psychology underpins our work. I provide a calm space to explore feelings and develop practical strategies for well-being. This approach helps families understand difficulties and build confidence. My background, including mental health training for schools, means I deeply understand children’s educational pressures.

Approach

Working with young people and their families over twelve years has shaped how sessions unfold: gently paced, practical and tailored to each household's rhythms. In Mount Lavinia I offer English-language sessions and remote appointments, creating a predictable structure with room for exploration. Therapy blends short, focused conversations with creative tasks and skill-building between meetings, so emotions are explored and new habits are practised. This approach suits parents, adolescents and children seeking calm, concrete steps to manage stress, behaviour and recover from difficult experiences.
