CORE SERVICES:
The approaches I utilise are tailored to the specific needs of each client. I tend to adopt an integrative approach which works with the person in a holistic manner. I have received training and prefers to utilize CBT, DBT, Humanistic and Psychodynamic approaches. I am also a fully qualified and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner (EMDR is one of the treatment approaches recommended by NICE for the treatment of PTSD).
I consider continuing professional development as a central component to maintaining competence in my clinical work. As such I attend training each year which is designed to meet the needs of my current and future clinical work.
If you are experiencing distress, then psychological intervention and therapy aims to be of assistance to you. Dr. Thompson advocates safe, ethical and evidence-based psychological practice. She ensures she works within her areas of competence and complies with the professional requirement of monthly clinical supervision to ensure she provides clients with the best possible care. If Dr. Thompson is of the clinical opinion that she is unable to assist you, she will recommend a referral to another psychologist specialist.
For people who are uncertain whether therapy is right for them, an Introductory Consultation lasting up to 60 minutes is available (usual fee applies). This provides an opportunity to discuss the process of therapy, to determine if you feel comfortable talking with Maria and to address any queries you may have.
